NOVA FORESTA PUBLICATIONSBooks on the New Forest (second-hand and new) form the basis of this business, reflecting Georgina Babey's and Peter Roberts' lifelong interest and knowledge of the area. They have written or co-authored seven books on the New Forest as well as numerous articles in a range of publications. Love of the New Forest is evident not only in their writings but also their involvement in local conservation. They both give illustrated talks on the area using expertise gained over many years. Research into Family/Local/House History is now undertaken. Georgina Babey was born and bred on the edge of the New Forest and developed an enormous respect for her native area. She is well aware that her life would have been very different had her grandfather not decided to give up the commoning way of life that his ancestors had followed (in Bramshaw) for many generations. In 1994 Georgina realised two lifelong ambitions - to run a second-hand bookshop and to be a free-lance writer. In the last nine years she has become familiar with pretty well every book ever written on the New Forest. In her own writings she concentrates on social aspects of Forest history - writers, artists, personalities and village history. Georgina has just finished her fifth book and is editor of a bi-annual magazine. Books include:- Peter Roberts, as with many book dealers, was a keen collector before he joined Georgina in starting the bookshop. He has been involved in New Forest conservation since the mid 1980's and was appointed to the Court of Verderers in 1994. He resigned in 2001 and has since concentrated on local history research and writing. Recently elected President of the county's premier history 'club' the Hampshire Field Club and Archaeological Society, he is also vice-chairman of the New Forest Association, the premier conservation charity in the area established in 1867. In 1992 he obtained a certificate in local history at Portsmouth University. The introduction to over 500 sources provided a firm basis for his later studies. He is keen to link village and Forest history, believing that for a fuller understanding of either the two are inseparable. Books include:-
