Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps


Before 1949 Military Nursing had been carried out by male nursing orderlies and Nursing Sisters of Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing service. On Feb 1st of that year Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps was made a Corps of the Regular Army. In 1950 young women began to enter the corps to train. Initial training was carried out at the QUARANC Training Centre in Aldershot and additional units of the main Military Hospitals.
